One of my favorite Dalai Lama quotes is this one:
The Dalai Lama was asked what surprised him the most; he said,
“Man, because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then he dies having never really lived.”
It really is quite crazy how we’re willing to sacrifice so much of our personal health, family time and relationships in pursuit of money in the hopes that it will bring us happiness and fulfillment. We need to find inner happiness and contentment and learn to enjoy the present! And of course find the balance which can be somewhat tricky.
There are many pressures on us for our time and energy but we do also waste a lot of time on unimportant things like social media, TV, Netflix and general stressing about work. There’s no magic switch to make it all right, but it’s certainly worth thinking about our lives and checking hat we’re priortising the things that have real meaning.
Money certainly makes life easier and more comfortable; but it should not be our ultimate focus! There are a few Dalai Lama quotes on life and money which really just hit the nail on the head. Truth with such clarity.
There are times that the Dalai Lama quotes health, bringing perspective back to the simplistic basics of life. We really need to take note of the quote that man sacrifices his health for money. Think about it. What are you going to to today to change this?
